AFC Telford 1-3 Southport

Southport moved five points clear of the relegation zone with victory over AFC Telford United, who suffered their 11th league game without a win.

After a goalless first half, the Sandgrounders went ahead through Simon Grand's header from Andy Owens' cross.

Grand doubled their advantage with another header, before substitute Chris Almond's stunning strike made it 3-0.

Jake Reid hit a late consolation goal for Telford, who drop into the Blue Square Bet Premier bottom four.

Telford's trip to Hereford on Tuesday night (8 January, 19:45 GMT) continues a busy month for Andy Sinton's men, who have nine scheduled Blue Square Bet Premier fixtures in January.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

AFC Telford United manager Andy Sinton told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"It's a game that sums up our last three months. We aren't sure how to win on the pitch and we have gone from being untroubled to alarming.

"We have designated roles, the confidence is low - and we've gone backwards.

"The crowd are frustrated and there is not much I can say, we are working as hard as we can. I have to get some people in to sort this out.

"If teams were cutting us open and playing us off the park I'd be concerned - but we will get back to work on Monday - we know where we need to be.

"Until we can put teams under pressure it will keep coming back - we have to role our sleeves up and get back to work on Tuesday night."
