Port Vale: Tom Pope wants to extend his stay at Vale Park

League Two top scorer Tom Pope says he wants to stay at Port Vale past this summer when his current contract ends.

Pope, who has 26 goals this season, triggered the option of extending his deal by a year when he hit 15 goals.

"I've had people asking me about rumours from clubs but I just try and distance myself from anything," Pope told BBC Radio Stoke.

"Hopefully I can sort something out, we can get promoted, and I can continue scoring goals for the Vale," he added.

"All I know is that I'm scoring goals for the club I love, we're top of the league and promotion beckons if we keep it going - I'm enjoying every minute."

Pope scored in the 2-1 first v second clash at Gillingham which saw Micky Adams' side leapfrog the Gills to claim top spot in League Two, a position they held following last weekend's postponements.

After coming out of administration in the autumn following the takeover by new owner Paul Wildes, Pope says that this has helped stabilise the side.

"We're out of administration now and we aren't worrying about whether we are going to get paid," the 27-year-old said.

"They want what's best for this football club and want to get us back to where we belong."
