Stoke City take FC Dallas winger Brek Shea on trial

Stoke City have given FC Dallas winger Brek Shea a week-long trial at the Potters with a view to a move.

Shea, who has 15 caps for the United States national team, recently had an operation to remove a bone from his right foot.

But manager Tony Pulis has given the 22-year-old a chance to impress at Stoke ahead of a possible deal.

"A year ago he was touted as the next great thing in America," Pulis told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I think he's fallen off the rails a little bit in some respects - I don't know why.

"I went to France last year to see him play for America. So we've got a chance to look at him - he's coming over and we'll see what we think."

Pulis, who has seen his side lose their last three Premier League games, also admitted that he is looking to add a number of players to his squad.

Danny Higginbotham,Michael Tonge and Maurice Edu have all left this month, but there have been no new arrivals.

Pulis says he will remain patient and wait until near the end of the transfer window to make any signings.

"We always do our business at the end [of a window] because we feel there are better deals to be done," he said.

"I think the chairman and everybody else would like to freshen it up a bit and bring in a couple of new faces."

Pulis has a history of leaving his transfer dealings until late on, with midfielders Steven Nzonzi and Charlie Adam both signing on the final day of the last window in August.
