Aldershot 1-2 Plymouth

Jason Banton's brace helped Plymouth leapfrog Aldershot at the bottom of League Two.

Banton, a January loan signing from Crystal Palace, opened the scoring for the visitors with a low, deflected effort from 25 yards out.

Peter Vincenti tapped in the leveller from close range after Danny Hylton's effort was pushed out by Jake Cole.

But Banton grabbed the winner on the break with a fine curling effort, while Danny Rose hit the post for the hosts.

Plymouth are now two points ahead of Aldershot, who are second from bottom of the Football League.

Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey:

"We've had numerous chances at 1-1 and I thought we were going to go on and win the game.

"Some key incidents cost us. I think we deserved more from this game.

"I've said to the players to go and assess themselves and be ready for Tuesday. Football finds out if you've got character.

"There are some teams above us on terrible runs of form. Today is a blow but we will pick ourselves up."

Plymouth Argyle manager John Sheridan told BBC Radio Devon:

"It was a hard day at the office, but to come away with three points against a team who were in and around us is a great effort from the players.

"Jason got the two goals and he'll take the plaudits. Hopefully it'll give him more confidence because I think he's got some great attributes to his game.

"They could've had one or two penalties but we'll take that. Defensively our work ethic was really good.

"I'd like us to take care of the ball a lot better. I said to the lads I think on the counter-attack we could've caused them more problems, but we held in there and it was a great result."
