Paddy Madden finds confidence after Yeovil Town switch

Striker Paddy Madden says he has rediscovered his confidence since making his move from Carlisle United to Yeovil Town.

The Irishman has scored eight goals in the last five matches to bring his total to 16 for the season.

"Confidence is a massive thing for a striker. If the goals are going in then you're on a real high," the 22-year-old told BBC Points West.

"I'm feeling fit now and I've got 16 goals in 20 games so I'm buzzing."

Carlisle signed Madden from League of Ireland side Bohemians in January 2011, but a series of injuries meant he struggled to maintain a regular first-team place.

The Dublin-born forward made only seven starts for the Blues before being loaned out to the Glovers in October. He made an immediate impact at Huish Park - scoring twice on his debut against Colchester.

He continued to impress and earned a permanent deal in January, with Yeovil buying out the remaining six months of his contract at Brunton Park.

Madden is now joint-top scorer in League One, level with Ipswich loanee David McGoldrick, and has helped Yeovil up to seventh in the table, five points off top spot.

And manager Gary Johnson recognises what an important acquisition Madden has been for his side.

"He's the bargain of the season. He's the only one we've paid for and it wasn't much," said Johnson.

"Carlisle weren't using him and Paddy is a confidence player. We saw him play a couple of times and were willing to take a chance on him for a month.

"He did well and we tried to keep it a secret. When it came down to it, Paddy wanted us as much as we wanted him.

"Paddy is a natural goalscorer and when you find one of them you have to guard them with your life."
