Aldershot Town: Andy Scott in frame for manager's job

Former Brentford and Rotherham manager Andy Scott is among the candidates to succeed Dean Holdsworth at Aldershot Town, BBC Surrey reports.

Holdsworth was relieved on his duties on Wednesday, with the club two points above the League Two relegation zone.

Scott is one of four names shortlisted, with former Shots boss Gary Waddock also believed to be in the running.

The Shots are keen to appoint a new manager in time for Saturday's home game with Fleetwood.

Scott has been without a job since leaving Rotherham in March last year, while Waddock, who spent two years in charge of the Shots and led the side to promotion to the Football League in 2008, was sacked as Wycombe boss in September.

Last month Aldershot chairman Kris Machala revealed he was looking for potential new investors and the club's former striker Mark Butler believes Holdsworth's departure could be a precursor to possible changes in the boardroom.

"The timing for me is what stands out after getting a result on Tuesday [against Torquay] and moving out of the relegation zone," Butler told BBC Surrey.

"Success for me is for Aldershot to stay in the league. I think something has almost been arranged behind closed doors and, for me, it looks like they have found the man they actually wanted.

"The timing was right for Aldershot, the new man and possibly the new people. They felt they had to move now."
