Torquay manager Alan Knill expects additions before Saturday

Torquay United manager Alan Knill says he expects to bring in some loan players to his squad before Saturday's key game with Accrington.

The Gulls are one point above the League Two relegation zone after seven successive losses.

"We're desperate just to help the players we already have here," Knill told BBC South West Sport.

"Everyone can see we need more players. I want players that have played in this league and know all about it."

Knill spoke about the need for experienced reinforcements after Tuesday night's defeat by Wycombe Wanderers.

Torquay will be without centre-back Aaron Downes - a veteran of over 200 league games - because of a hamstring injury for this weekend's relegation clash.

"I think it's important that we try and strengthen all positions in the squad, not just defence," Knill continued.

"Since Saturday we've tried for about 10 players but it hasn't come to fruition.

"Some have said 'no' straight away because of the location and they don't want to move, but others are open to it and were just waiting now to get a yes or a no."
