Chesterfield 2-0 Bristol Rovers

Chesterfield kept their slim hopes of a play-off spot alive with a comfortable win over Bristol Rovers.

Jay O'Shea opened the scoring for the Spireites when he seized on a poor clearance and found the top corner.

The lead was doubled thanks to Armand Gnanduillet's low strike from close range after he found space in the area.

Eliot Richards had a shot diverted onto the post in the first half for Rovers and he was denied again by goalkeeper Tommy Lee late on.

Chesterfield are now nine points off the play-offs, with the Pirates eight above the drop zone.

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"First 15 minutes apart I thought we were very compact, very strong and very good.

"We set a target, we wanted to win the three games this week to have a realistic chance of the play-offs {Chesterfield have won two and lost one of those games].

"Good players always turn up. They don't always play well but they always turn up and that's what makes good players.

"It's mathematically possibly to go up with nine games to go, why can't I believe? I believe every day."
