Captain Luke Watson's second-half winner helped Jersey to end their Uefa Regions' Cup campaign with victory as they won 1-0 against hosts San Marino.

Jersey could not qualify for the final stages in June after losing to Northern Ireland on Friday night.

But Watson converted Ben Gallichan's cross after 68 minutes to ensure that Jersey finished second in group six of the tournament in San Marino.

Jersey were representing England after winning the FA Inter League Cup.

Jersey had the better chances of the two sides in a game which had no bearing on the final outcome of the group.

Luke Campbell and Joe Murphy had shots blocked by the San Marino defence in the first half, while Jersey also hit the side netting in the second period.

"It was an important win, I think we needed it after the disappointment we had on Friday," Jersey assistant manager Dave Kennedy told BBC Radio Jersey.

"The second half the boys dug in and really wanted to finish this tournament well.

"We're disappointed we're not in the finals as we feel we were a better side than Northern Ireland, especially after looking back at the match on DVD.

"But we gave everything, as we have done throughout, and in the end we got another win," Kennedy added.
