Ben Smith: Southport sign unattached goalkeeper

Southport have signed free agent Ben Smith, who could make his debut against Blue Square Bet Premier leaders Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.

Regular goalkeeper Tony McMillan, who has started all 38 league games this season, has been allowed to leave the club and has joined Altrincham.

McMillan was sent off in the 2-1 defeat at Tamworth on Tuesday.

Smith, 26, was released by Rochdale in January after featuring twice in the Football League Trophy.

He has made 62 league starts for four different clubs during his career.
