Hyde 1-5 Lincoln City

  • Published

Vadaine Oliver's second-half hat-trick helped Lincoln thrash Hyde and ensure their Blue Square Bet Premier survival.

Alan Power's penalty put the Imps ahead after Josh Brizell fouled Jake Jones before Mamadou Fofana headed home Power's corner to double the lead.

Oliver then headed in, before Luke Ashworth turned in Jamie Milligan's corner to reduce the deficit.

However, Oliver nodded home Daniel Gray's free-kick before clinically finishing late on to complete the rout.

The comprehensive victory saw Lincoln leapfrog Hyde in the table and end the season in 16th, one point and two places ahead of their opponents.

Lincoln City manager Gary Simpson told BBC Radio Lincolnshire:

Lincoln display spot on - Simpson

"If you're going to do it [achieve survival] you might as well do it right and we got it spot on.

"Leaving Jamie Taylor out was a big decision, but our shape was most important today. We wanted to be in the match before we were out of it, just in case something happened in the other games. Tactically we got it spot on.

"We've taken 20 points from 13 games [since Simpson took charge] and over a season that would equal about 70 points, which shows where we could have been.

"In some ways it's a travesty that we're celebrating this because our club should be pushing at the other end and it starts now. Now we know where we are, we can plan. I want to build this club and give the supporters something to be proud of."
