Goals from Mark Farren and Guy Bates secure the points for Glenavon against Ballymena United

Mark Farren and Guy Bates struck late to secure a deserved Premiership win for Glenavon at the Showgrounds.

United keeper Dwayne Nelson made a superb save to deny Niall Henderson while Glenavon keeper Davy O'Hare kept out David Cushley's shot.

A dummy from Bates sent Farren through for a 73rd minute opener, with his shot hammering off the crossbar and in.

Bates sealed the victory six minutes from time when the striker curled his shot into the corner of United's net.

Bates found the net in the first half but it was ruled offside while lively Sky Blues forward Cushley fired wide.

Glenavon full-back Kyle Neill went close before two clinical finishes sealed the points for Gary Hamilton's team.
