Swansea not 'mentally drained' after Cup win, says Leon Britton

Midfielder Leon Britton does not believe the Capital One Cup win has removed Swansea City's intensity.

The Swans have won only once in the Premier League since their League Cup final triumph over Bradford on 24 February.

Michael Laudrup's side have now gone five games without victory after a being held at home by Southampton.

"I don't think it's a case of us not getting up for games and being mentally drained," Britton said.

"I just think we are going through a bit of a sticky patch where we're not getting the points on the board that we were before.

"It's not that we're mentally tired. We're just not clicking at the moment for one reason or another.

"We're frustrated, we want to put it right."

Swansea's last win in the Premier League was a 1-0 victory over Newcastle on 2 March - a week after their Wembley success.

Their five-match streak without a win is their longest since joining the Premier League last season.

Swansea have lost games against West Brom, Arsenal and Tottenham before drawing at Norwich and at home to Southampton.

Britton who returned to Swansea's starting line-up following paternity leave made his 400th league appearance against The Saints.

"We've had good spells in games. We haven't been terrible in all the games we've played where we haven't won," Britton added.

"It's just when we've had bad spells in games we've conceded goals.

"We spoke before the game [and] if we haven't got our shooting boots on to keep a clean sheet and end the game 0-0, which was the case.

"In other games we've had spells of 20-30 minutes when we've not played well, we've been punished and lacked concentration."

Manager Laudrup had targeted the Southampton's visit as a "must-win" game in Swansea's bid to finish in the top 10.

Britton still believes that is achievable despite upcoming matches against Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

"We've still got some tough games to come in the remaining fixtures," Britton added.

"We've been there [in the top 10] for a long spell and we want to make sure we finish in the top 10.

"That was the aim once we got there, to stay there. We need to pick up wins to make sure we stay there.

"Obviously we've got some tough games but hopefully we can play well and can pick up enough points."
