Newport boss Justin Edinburgh warns against complacency

Justin Edinburgh says Newport's Conference Premier play-off semi-final is far from over despite his side holding a 1-0 lead over Grimsby Town.

Newport secured victory in a tight away first leg, with Ismail Yakubu's header taking a deflection off Ian Miller for the only goal.

But Edinburgh has warned the tie is far from over ahead of Sunday's second leg.

"If we show any complacency Grimsby will smell that and they will take advantage," said the Newport manager.

"There's nothing between the two teams and we're going to have to be as good, if not better, on Sunday to progress.

"We've given ourselves a chance now and we wanted to be in the tie going home. [There's] still plenty to play in the tie.

"It's brilliant going back [to Rodney Parade] with a clean sheet and getting that late goal was a fantastic effort from the players.

"Going into any second leg of any competition with a lead gives you a chance.

"It gives you the initiative any maybe bring the opposition out a little bit more to maybe hit them on the counter-attack."

Edinburgh is hopeful he will have top scorer Aaron O'Connor available for Sunday's second leg at Rodney Parade.

O'Connor missed the first leg at Blundell Park with a thigh problem he picked up during the 2-2 draw at Luton Town.

Rodney Parade is likely to be a sell-out on Sunday and Edinburgh acknowledges the support of the County faithful.

"I'm sure that the fans will spur this team on," Edinburgh said.

"Since I've come through the door they have been immense. They make it easy for my players to play, home and away."
