Barnsley have overachieved - David Flitcroft

Barnsley boss David Flitcroft says he is "delighted" his side are still in with a chance of Championship survival.

The Tykes travel to Huddersfield on Saturday in 22nd place, trailing Peterborough on goal difference.

Flitcroft has guided the club to nine wins from his 19 league matches in charge.

"I'm delighted to be in this position and that the lads have given themselves a shot. We've overachieved," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I've always been positive but I never thought it would take 54 points to get to this point. I was more looking at a target of 48 when I took over.

"If we go down then we will have gone down fighting. We're desperate to stay in this league.

"I've been relaxed all of the way through because if I'm not then it will feed through to the players and the fans."

The Oakwell side were bottom of the Championship when Flitcroft took over from Keith Hill, who was sacked in December.

Three points separate Barnsley from 17th-placed Blackburn and Flitcroft is planning to keep a close eye across the other games at the bottom of the table.

"We'll have staff getting the details down to us because that could mean us needing to change shape or our approach," he added.

"Things will change three or four times across the course of the 90 minutes.

"I'm expecting a lot of goals and a lot of nerves which will open games up but we can only affect what we can do. There'll be no panic because we haven't done that since the day I came in."
