St Mirren manager Danny Lennon confirmed goalkeeper Craig Samson could join Scottish Premier League rivals Motherwell in the summer.

Samson's contract is expiring and he appeared to be waving his goodbyes after the 0-0 draw with Aberdeen.

"We got contact from Motherwell to say they would be open to negotiations with him and he's holding on to what his right is," Lennon told BBC Scotland.

"We made a good offer for him, but he wants to hold out for more."

And Lennon added: "He's earned the right to be number one.

"He believes in himself, and regardless, I want to thank him for his efforts and let's see where it takes him."

The Buddies boss also stated the Paisley side will find it hard to hold on to midfielder Paul McGowan, who is attracting interest from English Championship side Birmingham City.

"There's an offer out there for Paul McGowan and the ball is in his court," Lennon said.

"He's an ambitious man. He wants to see how high he can go.

"What he has told us is that if he is going to remain in Scotland, it'll be with St Mirren, which is pleasing.

"But I can totally understand why a talent like that would want to seek out new opportunities."

St Mirren's best chance in the match came through a long-range Dougie Imrie free-kick which Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield saved well.

Youngster Jack Smith made an impressive senior debut late on from the substitutes bench.

"We've had a progressive season," added Lennon.

"It'll be remembered for the cup final, and in many ways we've also not progressed as well as we expected to with this group of players.

"I'm frustrated in terms of where we're sitting at this minute in time.

"We might be looking at bringing in two or three players. The hardest part will be maybe three or four or five going the other way."
