Derek Adams waits for hospital verdict on Richard Brittain

Ross County manager Derek Adams is waiting to hear about the seriousness of the knee injury sustained by his captain Richard Brittain at Fir Park.

Brittain appeared to twist his knee badly in the 2-0 defeat to Motherwell.

It may further complicate the midfielder's current transfer wrangle between County and St Johnstone, the club he has signed a pre-contract deal with.

"I'm not sure," said Adams. "He's away to Wishaw General and we'll see what the extent of the injury is."

Brittain, 29, is hoping to cancel his agreement to move to Perth in favour of remaining in Dingwall with County.

This defeat ended the Highland side's hopes of finishing third in the Scottish Premier League and thereby entering the Europa League qualifying rounds over the summer.

That spot is currently held by their rivals Inverness CT, who can now only be caught by St Johnstone.

"We've had a fabulous season and now we want to try and finish in fourth position," Adams told BBC Radio Scotland.

"Today was about trying to finish in third and we haven't been able to do that.

"At the start of the season our main aim was to finish in 11th position and we've done a lot better than that.

"Take nothing away from Motherwell. They've had a fantastic season and deserve to be second in the league."

Ross County's final game of the season is a Highland derby in Dingwall against Inverness.
