Ross County boss 'winning many admirers' - Mark Fotheringham

Well-travelled Ross County midfielder Mark Fotheringham believes boss Derek Adams' achievements will have attracted the attention of bigger clubs.

County on Sunday have the chance of finishing fourth after their first season in the Scottish Premier League.

"The sky's the limit for the guy," said Fotheringham.

"In my opinion, he's only going to go one way and we're very fortunate here to have him and I know that the chairman is of the same view."

Fotheringham returned to Scotland last summer after a career that has taken him to Germany, Switzerland, England and Cyprus.

The 29-year-old who began his career with Celtic before spells with Dundee, Freiburg, Aarau, Norwich City, Dundee United, Anorthosis Famagusta and Livingston.

"I've worked with some good coaches down in England and in Europe and he's right up there with most of them," said Fotheringham of Adams.

"He's got a presence about him that you know there's a boundary, but you also know, if you have a family issue or something that you need help with, he's always there to put an arm round you and that's the sign of a good manager.

"How can you do the things he's done in the past seasons without admirers looking on?

"He's just meticulous. Every single day at training, you've got to be at it."

Former Aberdeen, Burnley, Motherwell, Livingston and County midfielder Adams is in his second spell as manager at Victoria Park after a brief spell as assistant at Hibernian.

He has led the Dingwall club from Division Two to the Scottish Premier League and Fotheringham thought that going close to Europa League qualification will have other clubs eyeing Adams' services.

"I would not be surprised one little bit and I'm lucky enough this season to have worked with him," he said.

Adams has been ably assisted by his father, George, the former Aberdeen and Rangers youth coach who is now director of football.

"I think they are of the mould of the Aberdeen people, the Alex Ferguson's," added Fotheringham.

"We're very fortunate to have the gaffer and George here. They are so experienced, in terms of George's knowledge throughout the game.

"You just have to look at the players he's found - Aiden McGeady, Shaun Maloney - it's incredible."
