AC Milan prepare decision about Massimiliano Allegri's fate

Head coach Massimiliano Allegri has refused to be drawn on his future, as AC Milan plan to make a decision on his post at a Wednesday meeting.

Speculation surrounds Allegri despite helping Milan recover from their worst ever start to a Serie A campaign to make the Champions League qualifiers.

"Right now, talking about the future is too early," he told Sky Sport Italia.

Meanwhile, boss Walter Mazzarri has left Napoli after guiding them to second place, one position above Milan.

"My course in Naples has come to an end," he told the official website.

"The moment has come to take a little break and think. Napoli is an amazing reality, I am leaving because after four years I need new motivation, also for the players."

Mazzarri joined Napoli from Sampdoria in 2009, leading his club to the runners-up spot behind champions Juventus this term, thanks in part to 29-goal top scorer Edinson Cavani's exploits.

Milan boss Allegri has been repeatedly linked with a switch to Roma in recent months, with his club being forced to issue a statement two weeks ago denying rumours he had agreed a three-year contract with the capital side.

The former Cagliari head coach's future was believed to hinge on whether he could secure entry into Europe's premier club competition.

He went within three minutes of missing that target in the final round of top flight games, before an 84th-minute Mario Balotelli penalty sparked a late comeback victory at already relegated Siena to keep Milan in third place ahead of Fiorentina.

In the wake of that achievement, vice-president Adriano Galliani revealed he would meet with Allegri and club president Silvio Berlusconi shortly to discuss the head coach's fate.

He told the club's official website: "Allegri's future? We'll meet on Wednesday and a decision will be taken with the president. We have to see what he wants to do."

Allegri won the Serie A title in his first season in charge at the San Siro in 2010-11, and his side finished runners-up to Juventus last year.

Much of the doubt around the former Cagliari boss's position came after Milan endured a wretched start to their league campaign following a summer that saw the sale of star names such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, who both joined big-spending French side Paris St-Germain.

Milan were 15th in October after that slow start to the season but have lost only three league matches since then.
