Port Vale: Ashley Vincent to leave after rejecting new contract

Port Vale winger Ashley Vincent has turned down the offer of a new contract with the League One-bound club.

The former Wolves trainee, who turns 28 next week, had been offered a two-year deal, having arrived last summer from Colchester on a one-year contract.

But Vincent, who also helped Cheltenham to promotion to League One in 2006, has opted instead to make another move.

He is reportedly a target for Rotherham United, who also went up to League One, finishing above Vale in second.

"I am personally disappointed that we couldn't reach an agreement with Ashley," said Vale manager Micky Adams. "But that is football and we move on.

"I'd like to thank Ashley for his contribution for his time at Port Vale, particularly in the first half of the season."

Adams is now awaiting decisions from his other nine out-of-contract players.

Midfield men Sam Morsy and Doug Loft, striker Ben Williamson, left-back Dan Jones and reserve keeper Sam Johnson have also been offered two-year deals.

Striker Louis Dodds and defender Adam Yates have been offered one-year deals, with an option for a second, and mid-season arrivals Liam Chilvers and Chris Birchall are considering 12-month offers.
