Southend United hit by another HMRC winding-up petition

Southend United have been issued with a winding-up petition from HM Revenue & Customs, their sixth in four years.

The hearing over an unpaid tax bill will be held on Monday, 24 June at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

The League Two club were last taken to court by HMRC in March, but the club paid the debt before the hearing and the case was dismissed.

They also fended off two HMRC petitions in 2010, as well as one over a £690,000 tax bill the previous year.

In 2011, the Essex side were issued with a similar order from Charterhouse Commercial Finance Plc, who were owed £140,000, which the club subsequently paid.
