The 19-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the Black Cats and will join up with the under-21 side, coached by academy boss Ged McNamee, on 1 July.

Watmore scored 14 goals in 29 games for the Conference North club in 2012-13.

"There's also an immense sense of pride that he has deservedly earned himself a fantastic opportunity," Altrincham chairman Grahame Rowley commented.
