Gary McDonald is set to leave Morecambe after the out-of-contract midfielder turned down a deal on reduced terms.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Shrimps in 2011, made 43 league appearances this season as Jim Bentley's side finished 16th in League Two.

But the ex-Hamilton man follows Nick Fenton and Will Haining in rejecting reduced terms at the Globe Arena.

"He's a player I'd like to have kept," said Bentley. "But he wasn't able to accept the terms we could offer."

Bentley, who has offered new contracts to forwards Lewis Alessandra and Jordan Burrow, will allow Danny Carlton to train with the club in pre-season.

Carlton, 29, who is in his second spell at Morecambe, is looking to prove his fitness following a cruciate ligament injury which kept him out of most of last term.
