St Johnstone: Stevie May signs new one-year contract

Forward Stevie May has signed a new one-year contract with St Johnstone.

May, 20, has been with the Scottish Premier League side since 2008 and has been sent out on loan over the past two seasons.

He scored 19 goals to help Alloa win the Third Division in 2012 and was most recently with Hamilton, for whom he scored 26 times this season.

"We're delighted that Stevie has signed on," manager Steve Lomas told the St Johnstone website.

"He has shown that he can score goals in the Scottish Football League and we now have to give him the opportunity to develop his game further."

May scored on his Saints debut in 2009 and followed that with a double in a Scottish Cup defeat of Hamilton in 2011.

Chairman Steve Brown revealed May and Liam Caddis were offered longer-term deals at McDiarmid Park.

"Both were offered two-year deals but have opted for one which is fine - I'm sure that if they start to make an impact at first team level both parties will be looking to review things again," explained Brown.

"I think we have handled Stevie the right way in allowing him to develop at Third and then First Division level.

"Hopefully he can show that he can do it at SPL level in the season ahead."
