Mick Jones reappointed Notts County assistant manager

Notts County have reappointed Mick Jones as assistant manager 20 years after he left the club.

Jones, who also played more than 100 games for the Magpies, was Neil Warnock's number two when County reached the top flight in 1991.

He will work with boss Chris Kiwomya, who has been without an assistant since taking the job in February.

"I want to help recreate those Notts County days," Jones told BBC East Midlands Today.

"I should be retiring now, this will definitely be my last club, and I want it to be successful.

"I've come back to Notts County because I love Notts County - I hope that can create a lot of enthusiasm among everyone here."

Since leaving Meadow Lane two decades ago, Jones has worked with Warnock at Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and most recently at Leeds United.

He left Elland Road the same day Warnock parted company with the Championship club.

It is now on Warnock's advice, and Kiwomya's insistence, that Jones agreed to another stint at with the Magpies.

"Never in a million years did I think I would return," he said.

"Even up until a couple of weeks ago I wasn't too sure, I asked myself if I was making the decision for the right reasons.

"Chris did a convincing job on me, and when I spoke to Warnock he said this was a perfect role for me."
