Coventry City: Daniels, Wilson and Phillips sign new deals

Coventry City's young midfielder Billy Daniels has signed a new two-year deal with the League One club.

Two more two youngsters, striker Callum Wilson and defender Aaron Phillips, have marked the Sky Blues' return to training by penning one-year contracts.

"To see three promising young players commit to the club on the first day of pre-season is really positive," said Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley.

"Billy is one we want to challenge for a regular first-team spot," he added.

"Callum was involved with the first team towards the end of last season having fought hard to recover from injury problems and proved he deserves another deal."

While 21-year-old Wilson and 19-year-old Daniels have first-team experience at the Ricoh Arena, fellow teenager Phillips is yet to make his Coventry debut, although he did spend the final three months of last season on loan at non-league neighbours Nuneaton Town.

The 19-year-old, who came through the ranks at the Ricoh Arena, is the son of former Wales international midfielder Dave Phillips, a member of the Sky Blues' 1987 FA Cup winning team.

"His loan spell proved a valuable experience," said Pressley. "And we are hoping he continues with his hard work this season. I want to have a strong squad next season with every position covered, and Aaron will be an important part of that."

In addition, four City teenagers have penned their first one-year professional deals - 18-year-olds Leon Lobjoit, Ben Maund and Louis Garner and 17-year-old Lewis Rankin.

Coventry have also signed up nine first-year scholars for the 2013-14 Premier Academy League campaign.

Twins Dion and Devon Kelly-Evans, Luke Bromley, Kyle Barnett, Jake Richards, James Maddison, Ben Stevenson have all agreed deals, along with two Wales Under-17 internationals Cian Harries and George Thomas.
