Wayne Rooney: Man Utd striker to hold talks with David Moyes

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will this week hold face-to-face talks with new manager David Moyes over his future at Old Trafford.

The England international's future has been the subject of debate ever since Moyes' predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that Rooney made a verbal transfer request last season.

Rooney played under Moyes at Everton before a £27m switch to United in 2004.

And the pair, along with Rooney's agent Paul Stretford, will meet imminently.

The 27-year-old forward, who also asked to leave United in October 2010, was linked with a move to Paris St-Germain in April while more recently there has reportedly been interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

Rooney did not feature in Ferguson's final home match before retirement against Swansea, although the former Everton man did join his team-mates in the Premier League title celebrations afterwards when United were presented with the trophy, receiving a mixed reception from supporters.

A resolution to the issue is high on the list of priorities for Moyes, who began his first official day in charge of United on Monday by appointing three members of his backroom staff from Everton including Steve Round as assistant manager.

Moyes and Rooney have had their differences in the past.

In 2008, Moyes accepted substantial libel damages over claims made in Rooney's book about their relationship at Everton.

Since then, however, the pair have been reconciled.

In September 2012, Rooney wrote on Twitter: "Everton are playing brilliantly. David Moyes has done some job over the last 10 years."
