AFC Bournemouth: Jayden Stockley wants breakthrough year

Bournemouth's teenage striker Jayden Stockley says it is time to reward the manager and supporters' patience in him and break into the first team.

Stockley, 19, is in the fourth year of a five-year deal and spent last season on loan at Conference side Woking.

Although he may go out on loan again this term, Stockley wants to challenge for a Bournemouth shirt.

"I'll be battling hard to force my way into the team this season," he told BBC Radio Solent.

Stockley, who has started just one league game for the Cherries, scored 10 goals for Woking during his loan spell and believes he is now physically ready for senior football.

"At the start there was a lot of pressure on me," he added.

"But I think I am growing into my body now. I know the gaffer thinks a lot of me and I just want to do everything I can for him, the supporters and the club as they have been very patient with me.

"I think I bring something different to the side and I believe in my own ability."

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says Stockley is likely to go out on loan to another Football League club this season.

Stockley was handed a five-year deal by Howe at the age of 16 but as well as the player progressing individually, the Cherries have also moved up to a higher level as a club.

And Howe says Stockley may have to prove himself elsewhere before he makes an impact at the Cherries.

"What I will say about Jayden is in the loan spells he has had, he has done very well," Howe told BBC Radio Solent.

"Woking were delighted with him and as a young player I think he needed that.

"Whether he is close enough to my squad, I'm not sure, time will tell on that. If he's not, he'll go out on loan again, hopefully at a higher level.

"When Jayden first came through we were a League Two club and at that stage I would say he was pretty close to playing, but we've jumped two divisions so the demands increase and it is tougher to break in."
