Morecambe 1-1 Torquay

New signing Karl Hawley's first goal for Torquay earned his side a point against Morecambe.

Ryan Williams opened the scoring for the hosts after Andy Fleming created the space for his team-mate to unleash a superb swirling effort from 25 yards.

Torquay levelled with Hawley's clinical strike from the edge of the area.

Gulls defender Dale Tonge was sent off on 85 minutes for a foul on Joe McGee, and McGee almost took advantage when he hit the post in injury-time.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"The positive is that we're off the mark, but I don't think we deserved to win the game.

"We started well and got on top. My disappointment is that you get in the position where you get a team on the ropes and you want to finish them off - we had a great opportunity to get amongst them and we took our foot off the gas.

"It was like a cat getting a mouse and playing around with it, instead of killing it. While it's 1-0, the other team is in with a shout."
