Plymouth 0-2 Fleetwood

A poor Plymouth Argyle were punished as Fleetwood striker David Ball scored two excellent goals to seal a well-deserved victory for his side.

Durrell Berry lost possession to give Ball the chance to open the scoring, and a searing shot from 25 yards gave goalkeeper Jake Cole no chance.

The second came two minutes later via a powerful Ball shot into the top corner.

Argyle created few chances, with Andre Blackman's rising effort in the 87th minute as close as they got.

Plymouth boss John Sheridan told BBC Radio Devon:

Form 'not good enough' - Sheridan

"Full credit to Fleetwood, they kept catching us on the break and we totally switched off. It shouldn't be the case - there were still 75-80 minutes to go.

"I'm the manager and it's hard sometimes to find things to say as to the reason why. I can look at myself - did I pick the right team? It was the same team that everyone says played so well against Birmingham in the League Cup.

"We've got to take the criticism which I expect because the two league games we have played have just not been good enough."

Fleetwood Town manager Graham Alexander told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"We made an excellent start with two goals in the first 12 minutes. They were both great finishes from David Ball and then we saw the game out professionally.

"We came under threat because Plymouth committed a lot of bodies forward in the second half. We defended well and could maybe have scored a couple more ourselves.

"Three points and a clean sheet - it's a long way to come and it will be a happy journey back."
