Gateshead 1-2 Grimsby

Grimsby recovered from going a goal down to earn their first win of the season and leave Gateshead without a point from their first two games.

The hosts celebrated playing their first game at the International Stadium since New Year's Day by taking the lead with Phil Turnbull's 25-yard volley.

Liam Hearn headed an almost immediate equaliser from Joe Colbeck's cross.

And Chris Doig powerfully headed home the winner in the 72nd minute from Patrick McLaughlin's centre.

Grimsby joint-manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:

"Yeah it's nice to get your first win, that's what you're always looking for.

"It was a good goal from our point of view, I'm sure they will be disappointed but we said at half-time the short corner was always on.

"I thought in the first half Gateshead looked a threat, a bit of a wonder goal. It's difficult you play a bit of cat and mouse leaving two up and they didn't have anyone on the edge of the box and the lad came forward and hit an unstoppable shot really.

"I'm sure there's a lot of people would prefer it if we could play better at home but that's part and parcel of football."
