Lincoln City 2-1 Forest Green Rovers

Waide Fairhurst scored twice as Lincoln City continued their unbeaten start to the season with victory over Forest Green Rovers at a blustery Sincil Bank.

Forest Green took the lead when Anthony Barry's low swirling shot deflected off Nat Brown and into the net.

Lincoln equalised in similar fashion after a Sean Newton cross dropped to Fairhurst who netted via a deflection.

The game seemed to be heading for a draw until Fairhurst swept home another Newton cross to earn Lincoln victory.

Lincoln City manager Gary Simpson told BBC Radio Lincolnshire:

"I'm highly delighted, we've beaten a good technical football team. We set our stall out, worked very hard and the lads got their rewards for it.

"I'm not saying we worked their keeper a lot but we always looked more dangerous, getting things in the box and putting them at sixes and sevens and Waide's come in and bagged two good goals.

"I've tried to put a squad together and you never know how they'll gel or who'll play better with who.

"Once they all start hitting form I'll have a headache, but against a good team today I thought we did well."

Forest Green Rovers manager Dave Hockaday told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"It was just a horrible messy game. We've played into their hands and we haven't played our game, so we have to look to ourselves.

"I thought defensively we were strong and they had very few chances. We didn't get the fluency to our passing, the quality on the ball wasn't good enough and upfront I didn't think the movement was there.

"It looked like a 1-1 but we've had about four chances to clear the ball and we haven't. The lad's put it in the top corner today and fair play to him but it was a really disappointing level of performance from us today."

"There's no need to panic. If we'd come away with a draw that would've been more than fair."
