Port Vale secured their first win of the season as Doug Loft's goal earned them a deserved victory over Bradford.

Vale took the lead just before half-time as Lee Hughes latched onto James Meredith's scuffed back pass to round the keeper and tap into an empty net.

Nahki Wells fired in an equaliser from close range after the break following a brilliant piece of skill.

But Vale captain Loft had the final say when his 20-yard shot took a deflection and found the top left-hand corner.

Vale's attitude first class - Adams

"The commitment was there for everybody to see, and it was particularly nice after I'd questioned them last week. To get a response like that was first-class.

"At this level you've got to take your chances when they come because you know a good side, and Bradford are a good side, they're going to get chances. But I thought we limited them well today.

"A lot of pressure will be put on Tom [Pope] because of the goals he got last year and I think even he's questioned if he had enough opportunities, but I don't think he can question that today."
