Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has said forward Lee Tomlin has been ill-advised in trying to leave the club.

The 24-year-old has had a transfer request rejected by Posh.

"He's entitled to do what he's done. We as a club have to make a decision. He's handed in a request and we've rejected it," Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"If I were advising him I wouldn't be suggesting it. But he's obviously taking advice from other people."

Tomlin joined Posh from now defunct Rushden & Diamonds three years ago and has gone on to score 35 goals, including two already this season.

He was offered a new deal this summer, but still has two years remaining on his contract.

"We looked at extending the contract. Nothing come of that and the transfer request has come out," added Ferguson.

"We've got him for two years, he's under contract and that's it."
