Pascal Chimbonda offered Colwyn Bay contract

Colwyn Bay have offered a contract to ex-France defender Pascal Chimbonda.

Chimbonda, 34, was part of the France squad that reached the 2006 World Cup final but has struggled to find a club since he left Doncaster in July 2012.

But Conference North side Colwyn Bay have offered a short-term deal after Chimbonda turned out for the Seagulls in a pre-season friendly.

"I don't imagine I'll be able to keep him very long but I've left the ball in his court," said boss Frank Sinclair.

"I've offered him a short-term contract because basically that is what I can afford.

"If he decides to come and play for me for six weeks or so then that'd be fantastic, just the experience of him with my defenders I think it would be incredible to have him around the ground."

Former Tottenham star Chimbonda has been playing with non-League side Market Drayton to stay fit and had a trial with Tranmere Rovers in July.

"He's had a top-class career, his CV is unbelievable when you look at what he's done - he played in a World Cup finals for France," added player-manager Sinclair, the former Chelsea defender.

"He's a top player and at 34 I just can't believe that a Football League club hasn't come in for him yet.

"But it just shows the state of English football at the moment, the amount of players that are out of work this year is incredible."
