German side Schalke were held 1-1 at home by Greek side PAOK in the first leg of the Champions League play-off.

Peruvian Jefferson Farfan gave the hosts the advantage in the first-half, before former Chelsea man Miroslav Stoch equalised in the second period.

There were wins for FC Basel and Austria Vienna, while 1986 European Cup winners Steaua Bucharest drew 1-1 against Polish outfit Legia Warsaw.

Meanwhile, Arsenal look set to go through, beating Fenerbahce 3-0.

Swiss side Basel, who advanced from Manchester United's group two seasons ago, were in trouble as they went behind twice against Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad.

Having been 2-1 down, Mohamed Salah's second of the game, a goal from Giovanni Sio and Fabian Schar's penalty wrapped up a 4-2 win.

There were no problems for Austria Vienna as goals from Marin Leovac and Marko Stankovic gave them a 2-0 victory and put them in control of the tie against Dinamo Zagreb, who had Ante Rukavina sent-off.
