Portadown get their first Premiership win of the season with a 2-0 success over Ards at Shamrock Park.

Portadown sealed their first Irish Premiership win of the season thanks to Gary Twigg's two goals against Ards.

Former Shamrock Rovers striker Twigg scored his first with a bullet near-post header from Chris Casement's cross in the 39th minute.

Darren Murray had a couple of chances to make it 2-0, hitting the post with one from debutant Johnny Black's cross.

Twigg got his second 83 minutes, rounding keeper Graeme McKibben to net from Peter McMahon's through ball.

Ards offered little before the break but, after the introduction of the lively Scott Davidson, produced a better display in the second half.

William Faulkner forced a good save from Ports keeper David Miskelly while Davidson put a header over and a volley wide.

The result leaves Portadown with a win and two draws from their first three league fixtures while Ards, promoted as last season's Championship One winners, have yet to pick up a point.
