Warrenpoint Town secure their first Premiership win beating Ards 2-1 at Dixon Park

Daniel Hughes and Ruairi Devlin scored in the second half as Warrenpoint Town battled back from a goal down to clinch their first win in senior football.

In the game between the newly-promoted clubs in the Premiership, William Faulkner coolly slotted past Jonathan Parr to put Ards ahead on 33 minutes.

Hughes got Town back on terms with a wonderful strike from the edge of the box in the 76th minute.

Devlin won it with a fine individual goal six minutes from the end.

He turned his man on the edge of the box to net a fine left-foot shot.

Former Dundela player Ben Roy went close to an immediate equaliser but was thwarted by a fine save by Town goalkeeper Parr.

When 1-0 up, Ards could have doubled their lead but Ryan Henderson could not beat Parr when one-on-one with the Town keeper.

"We could have been four up at half-time - the game should have been over," said Ards boss Niall Currie.

"We sat back in the second half and deserved to be punished."

Town boss Barry Gray was delighted with his side's first Premiership points.

"We had a word at half-time because we had been disappointing up to then. We had not been working hard enough," he said.

"But the response in the second half was exceptional."
