Rochdale 1-0 Bury

Rochdale secured a battling derby victory over Bury despite having to play with 10 men for 52 minutes.

Dale were the better side before the break and led when Scott Hogan scored from close range after keeper Trevor Carson saved Peter Vincenti's header.

But two minutes later Vincenti was sent off, receiving a second yellow card for a late tackle on Andy Procter.

Bury struggled to make their advantage count with keeper Josh Lillis barely tested in the second period.

Rochdale assistant manager Chris Beech told BBC Radio Manchester:

"It means a lot [to win a derby game] and the players showed that in the way they tried to protect the advantage that we got.

"Scott Hogan looked stronger and fitter as the game progressed and it's great to see him score another goal at home. We need to get him scoring goals when we're playing away."

Bury manager Kevin Blackwell told BBC Radio Manchester:

"We huffed and puffed but didn't do enough. We dominated possession but we didn't create enough chances or work their goalkeeper enough and we suffered for that.

"We had enough of the ball to hurt them but I didn't think we were inventive enough around the box. When we were, players weren't taking opportunities to pull the trigger and that's what annoyed me. They need to take responsibility."
