Glenavon moved up to fourth in the Premiership table as second-half goals by David Rainey and Kyle Neill gave them victory away to Ballinamallard.

Rainey, a summer signing from Crusaders, made the breakthrough on the hour with a half-volley which gave home keeper Fergal Murphy no chance.

Substitute Neill headed with his first touch from a Bates cross to make it 2-0 in the 83rd minute.

Glenavon, beaten once in the league, have eight points from five games.

"We are trying to improve on last season," said player-manager Gary Hamilton.

"Ballinamallard beat us three times out of three last season, so we are three points better off in that regard.

"We might not finish in the top six this season, but we are going to give it a go.

"We have more winners involved in our set-up now with people like William Murphy and David Rainey coming in.

"I am glad the Crues released David because he is a model pro. He is always buzzing and people react off him."
