Former Preston boss Graham Westley endured a nightmare return to Deepdale as his Stevenage side were beaten 3-0.

Paul Huntington gave the home side the lead when he headed in from a Scott Laird cross on the stroke of half-time.

Defender Laird then doubled Preston's lead in the 59th minute with his first goal of the season.

Kevin Davies made sure of the points for the hosts, who are now fifth in League One, when he fired home six minutes from time.

"They had a really good squad up here and added international players to it in the summer.

"I think the team performed brilliantly for 45 minutes. It was a shame to give the goal away that we did.

"In the early stages of the second half i thought we got ourselves back on the front foot. The second goal came at the right time for them and the second time for us.

"Did we have enough character to bounce back at that stage? Probably not. I think our youth showed."
