Boss Gary Johnson says Yeovil must believe they can compete with ex-Premier League club QPR.

Saturday's Championship game at Huish Park is the first time to two clubs have met in the league.

QPR are top of the table and are among the biggest spenders in the division, while the League One play-off winners Yeovil have a budget of around £1m.

"It's just like us facing a Premier League team," Johnson, 57, told BBC Points West.

"They've still got some great players, like [midfielder] Joey Barton for instance. He'd be on more than our team, our supporters and chairman. Put them all together and he'd still be earning more than our whole caboodle.

"But we've got to make sure we believe in ourselves now that we are at the same level as QPR, on the pitch at least.

"We've got to make sure we give a good account of ourselves and we bring something to the party."

The two clubs have only met twice before - both in cup games. Yeovil won 3-0 in 2001 in the League Cup and QPR reversed the score in the FA Cup in 1988.

Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is reported to have spent £21.5m, not including undisclosed fees, on transfers in the 2013 January window but it was not enough to keep them in the top flight for a third consecutive season.

Yeovil, meanwhile, had a playing budget of around £800,000 last term, and were favourites for relegation, but defied the odds to beat Brentford 2-1 at Wembley and secure a place in the Championship for the first time.

The Glovers have struggled for form early on - picking up four points from seven games - while QPR are unbeaten at the top of the standings.

But Johnson is not concerned about the contest.

"We'll give them a game. He [Redknapp] might think this is tactical, but we are certainly not going to park the bus in front of goal to try and nick a 0-0," he said.

"You've got to be competitive. You've got to be out there and show your fans you're giving it a go

"We're going to go for it and see how far we come."
