Torquay United have signed centre-back Anthony O'Connor on a one-month loan deal from Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

The 20-year-old comes in as defensive cover following Aaron Downes' recent knee injury.

O'Connor - a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international - came through the youth system at Ewood Park.

He spent the whole of last season on loan at Burton Albion, making 53 appearances for the Brewers.

Gulls boss Alan Knill told BBC Radio Devon on Saturday he was "desperate" to get a new defender into the club after Downes' injury and Krystian Pearce's illness.
