Chester FC 1-1 Aldershot Town

  • Published

Aldershot substitute Jaydn Gibbs rescued a point for his side with a 90th-minute equaliser to deny fellow strugglers Chester a much-needed win.

In a match of few chances, Adam Mekki went close for the visitors while Joe Heath headed wide in response.

A stunning 25-yard effort from Chester's Conor Wilkinson looked to have won the game for the hosts.

But Gibbs, who had only been on for two minutes, was in the right place to convert Dan Butler's centre.

The result keeps both teams in the relegation zone in the Conference Premier table.

"I think they rarely tested our keeper and when you go 1-0 down so late on, you start to think that it's going to be one of those days, but the character was fantastic.

"To come away with nothing would have been a massive blow but we certainly played a lot better and there was good determination.

"We had two youngsters playing their debuts today and they both acquitted themselves well.

"We can go away with a lot more positives than we have been taking from the last two games. We can push on because we have got a couple of hard games coming up."
