Darren Murray scored a hat-trick as Portadown arrested their recent poor form with a thumping win at Dungannon.

Gary Twigg netted with a low shot from the left edge of the area on 17 minutes and Murray stooped to head in from close range a minute later.

Murray headed home from a Chris Casement corner in the 31st minute and Tim Mouncey headed in from six yards from a Kevin Braniff cross after 46.

Visiting striker Murray completed his treble with five minutes remaining.

Portadown began the game in dominant fashion and Peter McMahon was wide with two efforts, while Fra Brennan cleared off the line from Murray.

Twigg broke the deadlock after goalkeeper Gareth Buchanan dropped the ball into his path from a Braniff cross.

Murray scored twice and Mouncey once, then Buchanan saved well from Twigg and Richard Copeland cleared off the line, before Murray completed the scoring.

Portadown move up to fourth place while Dungannon drop to ninth.
