Chesterfield 2-0 Wycombe Wanderers

  • Published

Chesterfield maintained their promotion challenge with a 2-0 victory over mid-table Wycombe.

Wycombe defended well until a Jay O'Shea cross from the right was met by Ollie Banks, who nodded home.

The advantage was doubled when Armand Gnanduillet rose to head a Gary Roberts corner past Matt Ingram.

A smart save from Tommy Lee denied Billy Knott, as the Spireites held on for their fourth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.

"We didn't turn up first half, and that really, really frustrates me. I said this time last year, we were encouraged, we were getting better. Now it's really frustrating.

"I had a pop at them at half-time because they didn't turn up, second half they come and perform like they did. It just really does frustrate me because the energy levels were there, the closing was there, but it took a rollocking at half-time and a change of shape for us to keep anywhere near them today.

"You look at the chances - Chesterfield have had three shots at our goal today and scored two. We must have had five or six and not got anywhere near really.

"We'll work on it, but we've got a big game on Tuesday. We can't be dwelling on games and going through things and working on them in training all week, because we've got Exeter just round the corner, and I want to get back to winning ways against them."
