Morecambe 2-1 Bristol Rovers

  • Published

Morecambe fought back from a goal down to beat Bristol Rovers in League Two.

John-Joe O'Toole gave the visitors the lead from close range after Matt Harold's smart shot on the turn had been parried out by Barry Roche.

Padraig Amond slid in at the far post to convert Stewart Drummond's flick-on to get the hosts back on terms.

Jack Redshaw won it from six yards after Jack Sampson, who had provided the cross for the equaliser, saw his header come back off the post.

The win put Morecambe just one point behind seventh-placed Southend, while Rovers were left one point clear of the relegation places.

Bristol Rovers manager John Ward told BBC Radio Bristol:

"It's an absolutely devastating result. We have not been ruthless enough in the whole game.

"I'm not decrying their victory, I'm just thinking we've let them get away with it, missed chances, [and there were] poor decisions at times as well.

"We've tried really hard, but we've had a game that's been there for winning, not just one-nil and holding on to it, but to go and get further goals.

"Somebody just said in the dressing room that we haven't been ruthless enough and I think that's not just in their penalty box - that's in other parts if the pitch, giving silly free-kicks away, trying to play a type of football which the weather and conditions do let you do that."
