Bristol City 4-1 Stevenage

Louis Carey became Bristol City's record appearance maker as the Robins trounced fellow strugglers Stevenage.

The hosts were 2-0 up after 12 minutes, through Greg Cunningham's header and Sam Baldock's tap-in.

Baldock turned provider when he teed up Jay Emmanuel-Thomas to slot home, and the ex-Ipswich forward got his second with a brilliant solo effort.

Francois Zoko smashed in a consolation, before Carey came on for a record 646th Bristol City appearance.

Carey, playing for only the fourth time this season, replaced midfielder Simon Gillett to captain the side for the final three minutes and in the process surpassed John Atyeo's previous club record.

The 36-year-old, who was cheered with his every touch of the ball, made his Robins debut in a 1-0 defeat by Blackpool in 1996.

City remain 21st despite recording back-to-back victories for the first time since January, while Stevenage drop a place to 23rd after Crewe's surprise win at Colchester.

Stevenage manager Graham Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"I saw a game today where the team showed a lot of fight, a lot of care, we had a lot of good possession, we took our game forward and created a lot of good moments. The scoreline could have been very different on a different day.

"They've scored four from their 10 attempts and we've scored one from our 19. I think the attempts on goal is a fair reflection of the afternoon.

"Obviously football is about scoring goals, but I was comfortable with the work ethic, and the care and desire of the team today."
