Jonathan Franks' stunning volley snatched victory for Hartlepool in a dramatic climax at Morecambe.

Jack Sampson had drawn the hosts level with three minutes to go but Franks fired past Barry Roche to secure a win.

Hartlepool went 1-0 up after 17 minutes with a header from Jack Baldwin, but they looked set to drop two points when Sampson volleyed in.

Sampson and Kevin Ellison went close to a Morecambe winner, while Franks hit the bar before his last-gasp strike.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I'm absolutely gutted. That's football for you.

"After Boxing Day you're so high, and then you come back down to earth with a bump.

"We played well in spells and created one or two chances, but it's about putting the ball in the back of the net. We were just missing something."
