The match at Milltown is delayed because of faulty floodlights but Warrenpoint beat Ards 2-0.

Stephen McCabe's two goals earned Warrenpoint victory in the basement clash but the big talking point was another floodlight failure at Milltown.

Last week, Warrenpoint's first home Premiership game at the ground against Glenavon had to be abandoned when the lights went out.

The same light failed early in Saturday's game although the match continued to half time.

The second half was delayed for around 20 minutes before play could resume.

With Warrenpoint 2-0 ahead, the lights failed again in the final minute of injury-time which led referee Tim Marshall to blow for full-time which means that the result will stand.

Saturday's events will have been a major embarrassment for Warrenpoint but that will be cushioned somewhat by a vital three points.

Warrenpoint move into 10th spot in the table above Coleraine while Ards are now five points adrift at the bottom.

Willie Faulkner had a 23rd-minute chance for Ards but his effort was tipped on to the crossbar by Warrenpoint keeper Johnny Parr.

Within a minute, Warrenpoint had taken the lead after Ards keeper Graeme McKibbin had failed to hold a McCabe shot.

The game appeared set for an abandonment during the half-time interval before emergency work did manage to restore the floodlights.

Warrenpoint were reduced to 10 men in the 59th minute after Darren King was sent off following his second yellow card.

But within a minute, Warrenpoint had doubled their lead as McCabe fired to the net after being set up by James Hughes.

Ards did create late chances with James Culley heading a pointblank effort wide with Stephen Gordon also wasting a glorious opportunity.
